CIC helps recover stolen bakkie in Newton Park

Port Elizabeth’s high tech communications and safety network helped in the recovery of a vehicle after it was reported stolen last week.
The town’s Community Information Centre (CIC) received the call about a stolen bakkie last week Tuesday (July 10th). The caller said the car had been stolen in the Newton Park area.
“The CIC has become a central point where all crime related incidents can be reported. The centre is managed and staffed by Fidelity ADT and our operators are able to immediately relay the information they receive to the most appropriate law enforcement or security partners,” says Fidelity ADT branch manager in Port Elizabeth, Ryan Britz.
CIC agent Oswell October received the call about the stolen vehicle, and stayed on the phone with the complainant while his colleague Roxanne Blaauw passed the information on to Fidelity ADT armed response officer Jody Hitzeroth.
“The team in the CIC also had access to the stolen vehicle’s tracker system. They transmitted its movements to officer Hitzeroth and members of the SAPS who had joined the search by that time. After the vehicle moved through many suburbs it eventually came to a stop on Highfield Road, where it was located by officer Hitzeroth,” says Britz.
“This case shows the effectiveness of the CIC and how it can help coordinate security efforts in Port Elizabeth. It also helped that the car’s disappearance was immediately reported to the CIC, before it was too late.”
Police returned the vehicle to its rightful owner soon afterwards.
