Maggy, our Marsh Owl
Marsh Owls are rather unique, as they are day hunters.
Hunting insects, small mammals, birds and rodents.
They are found in Africa and Madagascar.
Maggy is a captive bred owl. Meaning, her parents are also in captivity and she wasn’t snatched out the wild.
When she breeds, she will make her nest on the ground and can lay between 2-4 small round eggs.
Marsh Owls are pretty small with a lenght of 35-37 cm.
Maggy has a wingspan of between 82-99 cm, making her a long winged.
She hardly makes a sound when she flies, however doesn’t hoot like other owls.
Her sound is more like that of a frog or maybe a sick duck…very funny to hear indeed.
