Hi-tech and team work leads to arrest at PE Business Park
A suspect is in police custody after an alleged attempted burglary at a business park in New Brighton. He was apprehended thanks to a high tech security system and excellent team work between security officers.
“A private security guard was on duty at the business park (on Wednesday 15 August) when he saw a group of suspects illegally gaining access to the property. The officer used his panic alarm button to call us for help,” explains Ryan Britz, Port Elizabeth branch manager for Fidelity ADT.
Fidelity ADT uses an automated dispatch system, which cuts back dramatically on the time it would take to manually make a phone call to a monitoring centre and ask for assistance. In this case, the closest armed response vehicle received an automated signal and responded.
The private security guard was monitoring the movement of the suspects using the property’s CCTV camera system, while waiting for help to arrive.
“When our officer arrived he called for backup to assist, given the size of the business park. The group of suspects saw our armed response officers searching the business park, and tried to flee. The officers managed to successfully apprehend one of the suspects and handed him over into police custody,” says Britz.
“This incident shows the importance of installing an effective CCTV camera network, especially for a larger property such as a business park. Modern technology offers other solutions too, such as panic buttons and auto-dispatch which gives armed response companies a further boost in the fight against crime. If you haven’t done so recently, have a chat with your security company to make sure your property is effectively protected and secured.”
