Beaches and dogs

Complaints were received concerning members of the public that allowed their dogs on Blue Flag beaches, in particular Robberg 5, which could lead to Bitou losing the Blue Flag status.

A check of the signs at various beaches showed that there could have been some confusion with interpretation, as the signs show the various areas dogs are allowed when viewing from the seaward side of the beach instead of from the visitor’s point of entry at beaches.

Robberg 5 beach was particularly confusing as it is an entry point to 2 zones – no dogs to the left as one enters the beach, and dogs on leash only to the right.

Additional signs have been erected to help reduce any confusion.
