Not only can you have a great time fishing in Plett but there is plenty to do for the rest of the family too!
Plettenberg Bay offers rock and surf, lagoon and sea fishing in great surroundings. It is the ideal location to bring the family along, as there is plenty for them to do while you fish. The lagoon is ideal to teach a youngster about fishing, and build up a great relationship with them at the same time.
We have national fishermen, league and club fisherman, a ski boat club, an angling club, fishing tackle shops, a bait shop, guiding and charter facilities.

This is a guide to the fish you could normally expect to catch, the bait that is most preferred by local anglers, and the places you could expect to find them. The best time to fish is on the pushing tide in the early morning or late afternoon. Some species are good to fish at night like Kob and White Steenbras.
Of course, there is naturally luck to fishing and you could quite easily catch something very different so, please share your catch news with us!

Robberg Marine Protected Area
No fishing is allowed in a rectangular area surrounding the Robberg Peninsula between the latitudes of 34°04.916’S and 34°07.633’S and the longitudes 023°22.300’E and 023°25.967’E although shore angling is allowed. No jetskis may be used anywhere in the MPA. Cape Nature is the management agency (Contact No: +27(0)44 533 2185
Tsitsikamma National Park (includes the Tsitsikamma Marine Protected Area)
No fishing is allowed between Groot River at Oubos to Groot River at Nature’s Valley, extending three nautical miles sea-wards from the high-water mark. No jetskis may be used anywhere in the MPA. SANParks is the management agency (Contact No:+27(0)42 281 1607)
Fishing Permit:
A fishing permit must be obtained from the local Post Office which is open Mon – Fri 8am to 5pm and on Saturday 8am to 1pm. The Post Office is at the dolphin circle end of Main Road, up the hill and next to the Police Station. Tel: +27(0)44 5331260
The permit will give you the fishing regulations in detail. Please take note of all the prohibited species. Have it on you at all times for inspection.
Note: The overall bag limit = 10
The new regulations stipulate that all powered vessels, jetskis and other toys require proof that they have been surveyed and issued with the necessary certificate and stickers, no matter where they are being used – penalties are stiff for not complying and insurance will be invalid.
Don’t forget your skipper’s licence!
