Kranshoek Coastal Hiking Trail
Directions to Kranshoek
From Plett, continue on the N2 as if you’re going to Knysna. Follow the signs to Harkerville. The turn-off from the N2 is next to the Sasol Garage.

Difficult. There are two options:
- 3km/2 hour – average
- 9 km/5hour – difficult
There is one very steep, marked section. Not for the very young or those with a fear of heights. Under 18s must be accompanied

Take With
You will need the following:
- sunglasses,
- good walking shoes,
- insect repellent,
- refreshments
- at least 2 litres of water per person,
- sunblock
- camera,
- binoculars
Please Note
There are sections of this trail where you might need to clamber a short way up into some bush, where a path leads over a shoulder and back down to some rocks. Railings and steps have recently been constructed over the more difficult sections of this path.
Description
A circular walk, which traverses amazing coastal scenery. The full walk is fairly tough, especially in hot weather, and demands a descent and ascent of 200 meters. Follow the trail markers – they are footprints that are painted on trees and rocks. The walk passes through prime examples of high forest, crosses sections of coastal Fynbos and takes the hiker along some breathtaking natural scenery along a cliff coast.

Some of the special features to look out for on this hike:
- A chance to spot the elusive Cape Clawless Otter.
- Whale watching opportunities aplenty – especially in season, from July to September.
