Holiday Safety tips
There are many perks to living in picturesque Plett, our pristine beaches, incredible views, plentiful fun activities, gourmet restaurants, a caring community, and active crime fighters working relentlessly with SAPS and Bitou Public Safety, towards a safer crime-free greater Bitou area.
Plett is known as one of the safest places and holiday destinations in South Africa. The perfect place to put your feet up and live life to the fullest. However, criminality and violent crimes are a reality of life, even here in Plettenberg Bay.
Tips to ensure you remain safe whilst on holiday:
- Ask your accommodation manager about any hotspots in the area.
- Make sure all your doors and windows are secured when out for the day.
- Do not hide spare keys in mailboxes or planters, or under doormats.
- Do not carry flashy items out in the open, such as your camera, cellphone, wallets, etc.
- Do not give handouts to the local beggars as there are establishments to assist them.
- Do not let anyone assist you with your bank ATM issues, rather go into the bank and speak to a teller.
- Do not place goods down unattended.
- Do not walk around late at night alone.
- Ask the accommodation manager if they have a safe deposit box for your valuables.
- Lock your vehicle and remove all the valuables, even in your driveway.
- Use caution anytime there is a stranger at your door.
- Be suspicious of unexpected sales calls or deliveries. Ask for identification.
