NVT Newsletter August 2012
Dear Members and all supporters of the Natures Valley Trust.
What happens when you take 300 willing volunteers, a handful of dedicated organisations and 150 indigenous trees and put them together? You get a view of a greener future. On the 15th June 2012 the annual Kurland Greening, driven by the Nature’s Valley Trust, was not only an enormous success but a community initiative that will be remembered for some time to come.
The greening project this year began in the Kurland Community Hall on Thursday evening where we welcomed eager community members and everyone settled in for an evening of knowledge sharing and community growth. Excitement rippled around the members with the knowledge that their presence at the workshop meant they would each receive a healthy and ready to plant fruit tree for their own properties and homes. The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) began proceedings by sharing their aims for the development of communities around the Western Cape with greening projects and Richard Bolus from Redford Nursery gave a valuable presentation on the pruning of their fruit trees.
