Message from the Board of Hospice Plett:
October has been a whirlwind of a month!
With the weather starting to warm (in between cold fronts and incredible amounts of rain), we had the privilege of hosting 2 wonderfully successful concerts at the Bosky Dell Rose Pavilion. With the relaxing of the Covid restrictions, it was a relief to see people coming out again to enjoy a picnic lunch in the garden, and delighting in live music after going so long without. Rae, from Bosky Dell, has promised to lend us her amazing venue to have a monthly concert, so watch this space for dates.
This month we also held our AGM on the 12th, hosted at the Piesang Valley Community Centre. Our CEO, Cecily, delivered an emotionally charged report that highlighted the effects of the pandemic on our organisation and our community over the past year. When you consider the resources available to the Hospice Plett team during this time, and the added stress of Covid chaos, it is truly a marvel that, despite the world seemingly collapsing around us, our nurses were still out in the community tirelessly delivering a service to the people that need it most. As Cecily so eloquently puts it, “I stand in awe of you”.
As with any charitable organization, our needs change from time to time. I will be sharing how you can actively get involved with Hospice Plett. If you can contribute in ANY way, please feel free to contact me directly or click on the button below.
At the end of November, we will be hosting our Year-End Staff Appreciation Event – a moment to celebrate and honour our staff for their dedication and hard work. The team has worked through exceptionally tough times in the last 2 years and we’re determined to take time and care for our carers.
We have our venue already sponsored but need YOUR help to complete the event and make it a moment to remember. Can you sponsor or provide any of the following?
1. Lunch for 55 people
2. Entertainment – Our CEO is a Karaoke master, so a DJ with this setup would be great!
3. A small gift for each of our staff (55 in total)
Or perhaps you have another idea? We’d love to hear it! Please be in touch by clicking the button below or calling our offices on 044 533 5616.
On a personal note, my first 2 months with Hospice Plett have, if nothing else, left me in awe of the power of the human spirit. I have seen our team give so much of themselves to the cause that is Hospice Plett. I have seen a group of people so driven in their purpose that personal gain is non-existent as a factor in decision making. I have personally been in the homes of the people receiving care from our nurses and have seen the impact our service has on the patients and their families.
It truly is an honor to be able to act as a support for these stalwarts of our community. I can only hope that my service to them will in turn result in their continued dedication to the service of you, the people of the Bitou Community.
Sincerely
Russel Braum | Assistant General Manager
How to support healthcare & a struggling community member
Many of the customers at our Charity Shop in Plett buy in bulk from us because of our low prices. These people then sell these clothes and household items in their own communities, which creates an income for them and their families. Who knew that your old clothing can support both healthcare through the Hospice Plett programmes AND a dedicated mom making a living in these tough times.
You can make a difference with just R100 a month! Your monthly giving supports our palliative programme as we provide support and care to our patients and their families in their most trying times. Together, we can impact up to 350 patients and their families, and you can get an 18A certificate to submit to SARS.
