House of Hope

We are a Non Profit Organisation (NPO 081-734) that was founded in June 2009. Since the beginning ‘House of Hope’ the main objective has been to give at least one meal every day to the many poor children in Kranshoek.

Kranshoek is village just outside of Plettenberg Bay, populated mainly by the coloured and black community, very poor, with little or zero work opportunities to support themselves.

All donations received by ‘House of Hope’ are paid out exclusively for the benefit of all the children we are assisting.

All the members of our organization are working as volunteers

When we started our project we assisted about 30 children, but over time the number of children has grown rapidly and today there are already about 200 children receiving one meal a day. This is obviously becoming a growing financial strain and unfortunately, we are not receiving any help from the SA Government and the Plettenberg Bay Municipality. The daily meals are prepared free by private people, in one small kitchen, and thanks to the different school timetable, we have been able until today to manage the increasing organisational and logistical problems. We keep a daily register with the name of children who are receiving the meal, in order to control that our help is given exclusively to the really poor children.

Last Christmas our special lunch was attended by 350 children. (In the 2009 there were 200).

The main project of our Association will always remain to support the children who are in the most need with food and clothes.

Our program for the near future (obviously if our finances will permit us to do so) is to:

♥ Buy a stand of land and build a prefabricated house, installing a proper kitchen and tables where the children can eat seated and eventually given other assistance. We wish to provide this prefabricated house with logistical infrastructures (bathroom and shower) to give the opportunity for them to receive the normal sanitary assistance.

♥ Build a space for entertainment where the children can play and develop their creative sense, with drawings and small manual works, them something like that can be useful in their future.
