“It’s gonna hurt me way more than it’ll hurt you”.
The Otter African Trail Run has been dubbed ‘The Holy Grail’ of trail running and is listed as one of South Africa’s toughest trail runs. The Otter is a 42 km trail run set in the breathtaking Tsitsikamma National Park traversing the full 5-day hiking route of the Otter Trail.
Stuart Palmer, our founder and director, will be taking on the challenge of running this race in under 8 hours on the 30th September. His mission is to raise funds for Lunchbox Theatre’s marine awareness and conservation show, The Whale Show. This show is currently touring to Garden Route schools with ORCA Foundation to raise awareness about Marine Protected Areas and the ocean’s largest mammal, the whale. And what better time than now with whale season in full swing and these majestic Cetaceans visiting our shores.
Stuart says: “Please support me and Lunchbox Theatre by donating whatever amount you can. It’s gonna hurt me way more than it’ll hurt you! I have to run 42km over harsh coastal and mountain terrain, all you have to do is follow the link below and sponsor my run.”
Please support this project by donating through www.backabuddy.co.za and assisting Lunchbox Theatre in taking these vital messages to many more children.

Our brand new Tree Show
We recently launched our brand new show in time for Arbor week. The Tree Show is a ½ hour dance, song, drama and comedy show that sees five vibrant Lunchbox actors playing some very interesting and engaging characters. Our story follows the preparations of a wedding in a small village. Everyone is working hard to beautify the ceremony area.
An old man rests below the village’s magic tree. A group of developers disturb the wedding ceremony and start removing the trees and building a casino. The magical tree wakes the old man, returns his youth and power and with the help of the audience they all find a way to work together. This is the first Lunchbox Theatre show that has seen a guest director taking the reins. Marion Attal, a volunteer who hails from Paris and New York has extensive experience in theatre and brought her own touch of magic to the show. The performers are Nomzamo Maga, Siyabonga Zabo, Chrissie Cloete, Amanda Valela and Spida Matyhila.
Each show is followed by a celebration during which an indigenous tree is planted in the school grounds. This tree stands as a reminder to the kids of the importance of our natural heritage and the valuable role that trees play in our daily lives. Oh, and also gives the kids a chance to get their hands dirty in the soil.
A big thank you to Steve from Pix by Steve and to Christy from ShowMe Plett for their fantastic photographs!
