Caring for Plett's Animals

We look after the community's animals!

Who We Are

Plett Animal Welfare Service started in the 1990’s with the aim of providing animal welfare services to the Bitou areas surrounding Plettenberg Bay.

This non-profit organisation, chaired by Mrs Di Butlin, currently operates a mobile Inspector who services 11 different townships in the Bitou area, namely Harkeville, Kwanokathula, Wittedrift, New Horizons, Green Valley, Bossiesgif, Plettenberg Bay, Kurland Village, Natures Valley and Covie.

Many of the residents in these townships live below the breadline and cannot afford even the most basic veterinary care for their animals.

PAWS relies on the generosity of the Plett Community and regularly organises Fund-raising activities to sustain a basic service to these communities.

After some negotiation with the Municipality, they’ve agreed to lease us a property in New Horizons. It will have a reception/office area and surgery facilities for the vets who work with us via the Bitou Community Veterinary Clinic.

We will also shortly be starting to build a kennelling facility for animals brought in by the public; a cattery; and housing for our Inspector. This is all due to the magnificent efforts of our PAWS Premises Fund-raising team led by Arthur de Gouveia and Toy Black who have raised and continue to raise funds to cover the costs of the building.
