VIDEO: Great White in shallow water
A Great White was captured frolicking in the shallow waters of sanctuary Beach, situated halfway down the Robberg beach.
On occasion, Great Whites stray into the deep Ocean and can be found in depths of 1000 meters (3,280ft) or more. However, their preferred water temperature is from 15C to 24C (59F to 75F), so most of the time they stay in shallow waters and near the surface.
Shark attacks can occur in less than three feet of water, so don’t assume that you’re safe in shallow water. While shark activity tends to be greater, a few hundred yards from shore, you should still remain alert even if you’re in thigh-deep water.
There have been many sightings over the past week and residents are being warned to avoid swimming at this time.
