Organisers have announced that the first leg of the longstanding Trans Agulhas inflatable boat challenge for this year will kick off at Plett’s Hobie Beach.
Celebrating its 33rd anniversary, the action-packed race will start on 28 December and is set to see more than 30 inflatable boats compete for top honours.
Competitors will visit beaches along the coast between Nature’s Valley and Gordon’s Bay, where the race will finish on 31 December.
The first leg is from Hobie Beach to Mossel Bay, followed by a gruelling one from Mossel Bay to Struisbaai that includes a night race. Day three sees the competitors racing from Struisbaai to Gansbaai, from where the last leg will depart to the Gordon’s Bay harbour.
“Plettenberg Bay can look forward to hosting the racers and the supporters the race attracts,” organisers said.
“It is great to have opportunities that encourage our communities to visit the area and this event is one that attracts many. The fast-paced, high-adrenaline sport is a must to watch and spectators can expect some brave wave jumping as competitors go full throttle to be the best in the toughest inflatable boat race in the world.”
