Top-notch performance to local audiences
Plettenberg Bay’s favourite actors are at it again and working hard at bringing yet another top-notch performance to local audiences.
The Bitou Amateur Theatrical Society, fondly known as the Bats, are working feverishly on their next live theatre production Annie, One Two Three.
This follows the success of the previous production Old Actors Never Die, which performed in front of sell-out audiences in 2014 and was staged at the Little Theatre in Port Elizabeth in March last year.
The Bats troupe, under the directorship of David Hall-Green, will bring their fourth play – an intriguing murder mystery – to Plett audiences from April 12 to 16 in the St Peter’s Church Hall.
“The play is based on fact, about little-known and truly amazing events during the Second World War and the rather complicated aftermath, some 50 years later,” Hall-Green said.
He did not want to reveal any further details to ensure it did not spoil the enjoyment of the thriller.
This new play by contemporary playwright, David Summers, is a significant departure from previous Bats productions, in that it is not a “comedy thriller” but a more serious “murder mystery”.
The “old hands” in Bats have been joined by three talented new actresses who are keeping everyone on their toes.
A special gala opening night will be hosted by the Plettenberg Bay Animal Welfare Society (Paws) on Tuesday, April 12 at 18:30, which includes cocktail snacks and wine.
“The excitement of real live theatre in Plett is a rare treat, not to be missed. Opening night tickets are selling briskly, but there are four other performances to choose from. People are urged to book their seats well in advance to avoid disappointment,” Hall-Green cautioned.
As in the past, all proceeds, after costs, will be donated to Paws.
The opening night will be followed by the performance at 19:30 and tickets are R120 each.
From April 13 to 16 the shows will start at 19:30 and tickets will be R90 each. All performances will be at the St Peter’s Church hall, Church Street, Plettenberg Bay.
Unreserved tickets will be available from Barney’s Kiosk, next to Mugg & Bean, Market Square Shopping Centre.
