Mashatile to commemorate Harvest Day with Freestate Farmers
Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s upcoming visit to the Free State will focus on strategies to enhance the agricultural sector, drive economic growth, and foster job creation.
In a statement from the Deputy President’s Office, it was highlighted that the event will showcase key achievements in agricultural development and reaffirm the government’s commitment to creating an inclusive agricultural sector that provides job opportunities for local communities.
As the chairperson of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Agriculture and Land Reform, Mashatile will engage with around 400 local farmers, agricultural stakeholders, and commodity organizations.
On Thursday, 27 February, Mashatile will mark Harvest Day with the Free State Apple Farmers at the Remmoho Investment in Agriculture Farm in Bethlehem.
“During the visit, the Deputy President will observe firsthand the investments in apple export and processing facilities in the province, illustrating the province’s innovative efforts to boost agricultural production and support local farmers, especially black farmers, in increasing their output,” the statement noted.
The visit will also spotlight Remmoho Investment in Agriculture’s contribution to the government’s goal of building a more inclusive agricultural sector, as outlined in the Agriculture and Agro-processing Master Plan (AAMP).
“The company’s significant investments in agriculture play a crucial role in creating employment opportunities and advancing food security across South Africa,” the statement added.
The Presidency emphasized that the event would celebrate agricultural success stories while highlighting how such initiatives align with broader government efforts to drive economic development and ensure food security.
