Lidz Football Club: Pioneering Women’s Football in Plett
In Plettenberg Bay, where the sun meets the sea, a new chapter in women’s football is being written by a team that embodies passion, resilience, and a commitment to the beautiful game. Lidz Football Club, a beacon of hope for aspiring female footballers, stands tall today, but its roots trace back to an earlier era of women’s football in the region.
Before Lidz FC became a force in the Women’s Regional League, there was Plett Ladies Football Club—the trailblazers of women’s football in Plettenberg Bay. This was the team that first put the region on the map, with a legacy of league titles and a stint in the prestigious Sasol League, a professional tier that many aspired to but few reached. Among the ranks of Plett Ladies were Lindiswa Zitshu, affectionately known as “Lidz,” and her teammate, both of whom would later carry the torch forward.
In 2017, driven by a shared vision and a deep love for the sport, Lindiswa founded Lidz Football Club. “Our vision has always been to develop ladies’ football in Plettenberg Bay and the surrounding region,” Lindiswa shares. Her motivation was clear: to create opportunities for young women in football—opportunities that she and her peers never had.
Lidz FC is more than just a team; it’s a movement. With players drawn from across the region, the club is a melting pot of talent, ambition, and dreams. As the team competes in the Women’s Regional League, it not only represents the present but also the future of women’s football in Plettenberg Bay.
The journey of Lidz Football Club is a testament to the power of vision, leadership, and community. It’s a story that continues to unfold, with each match played and each goal scored, forging a path for the next generation of female footballers in South Africa.
