I Love Boobies ‘Secret Swim” for Cancer Awareness
Plettenberg Bay has been chosen as one of the locations for a “secret swim” event to raise cancer awareness and support a charity that provides free breast cancer screenings for women in need. The event is organized by I Love Boobies, a non-profit organization, and will take place on Saturday, 12 October, as part of five secret swims happening across the country.
“Join us as we honour the fighters, celebrate the survivors, and remember those who bravely battled breast cancer,” said the organizers.
Limited to 200 Participants
The Plettenberg Bay event, like the others, will be limited to 200 women to ensure a safe and supportive environment for those affected by breast cancer. The swim is open to women of all ages, creating a space for unity and empowerment.
The entry fee is R200, and all proceeds will go towards the I Love Boobies breast cancer screening programme, with the goal of funding screenings for 1,000 women.
Registration will then take place at 07:30 and the swim at 08:00. Participants are encouraged to stay and have a picnic on the beach afterwards.
Other locations include Tableview in the Western Cape, Scottburgh on Kwazulu-Natal’s South Coast and Ballito on its North Coast. To purchase a ticket, participants can click here.

The Need for Screenings
The I Love Boobies team highlighted the significant gap in breast cancer screenings in South Africa. While approximately 47,000 women should be screened each year, it is estimated that only 10,000 are.
The organization’s mission is to educate and provide clinical screenings for women who lack financial resources and access to medical care.
“Breast cancer poses tremendous health risks for women. One in eight women, regardless of background, will face invasive breast cancer in her lifetime,” the team stated.
They added that most breast cancer-related deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries, where late diagnoses are common due to limited public awareness, lack of access to affordable diagnosis and treatment, and inadequate healthcare infrastructure.
To encourage regular self-examinations, each woman screened through the programme will receive a pair of socks, a small but powerful reminder to check her health each time she wears them.
