Fundraising Initiative to Support Jay’s Dream
Ex-Plett Head Girl Selected for WC Waterpolo Team, Seeks Fundraising Support
Former Plettenberg Bay Primary School head girl, Jay Kerekes, has achieved an impressive milestone by being selected to represent the Western Cape in the U-14 water polo team. What makes this accomplishment even more remarkable is that Jay only began playing water polo earlier this year. Her rapid progress in the sport is a testament to her hard work, dedication, and passion, which has now earned her the opportunity to compete on a provincial level.
Jay’s selection comes ahead of the inter-provincial tournament, scheduled to take place in East London from 7 to 11 December, where the top water polo players from each province will compete for the national title. Despite the excitement surrounding this achievement, Jay’s journey comes with financial challenges. In order to participate in the event, she needs to raise R20 000 to cover costs such as her kit and event fees.
Fundraising Initiative to Support Jay’s Dream
Jay, who now resides in Cape Town, has expressed her excitement about this being just the beginning of her water polo journey. To help her reach this important milestone, her family and the Plettenberg Bay community have launched a fundraising initiative.
Her father, Logan Harris, a well-known jeweller in Plettenberg Bay, has crafted a beautiful 9ct gold set of pansy shell earrings, valued at just under R3 000. These earrings will be one of the prizes in a raffle that aims to raise the necessary funds for Jay’s participation in the tournament. Additionally, local KwikSpar owner Duncan Brown has generously contributed a R1 000 shopping voucher as another prize for the raffle.
Raffle tickets are priced at R50 each, and the winners will be announced on 15 November. Those interested in supporting Jay’s journey can purchase raffle entries by making electronic payments to the following account:
Account Name: J Kerekes

Jay’s determination and the overwhelming support from her community reflect the power of teamwork both in and out of the pool. With the help of her supporters, she is one step closer to making her dreams come true and representing the Western Cape on the national stage.
