Dricus Du Plessis Thanks Drake for The Bet – and The Luck
In a thrilling twist of fate, UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis gave a shout-out to rapper Drake for his recent high-stakes bet against him.
This past weekend, du Plessis stunned the MMA world by successfully defending his title at UFC 305 in Perth, and he did it with flair. The South African fighter took on Nigerian-born contender Israel Adesanya, who was heavily favored to win. However, it was du Plessis who stole the show, forcing Adesanya into a fourth-round tap-out with a masterful rear-naked choke.
Among the many fans and bettors, Canadian rap icon Drake placed a massive R8 million wager on Adesanya. But the “Drake Curse” struck again, and du Plessis capitalized on the opportunity, leaving the rapper’s bet in the dust.
In a cheeky nod to his victory, du Plessis took to X (formerly Twitter) to extend his gratitude to Drake. “From the bottom of my heart once again. THANK YOU @Drake,” wrote du Plessis, clearly enjoying the moment.
The South African fanbase had a lot to say about the rapper’s betting streak. “Drake is the worst gambler EVER! Well done, Champ! Making SA proud!” tweeted Disclosed Awareness.
Film director Ofentse Mwase humorously added, “Drake just keep betting against the Champ, and we’ll keep the legacy of your Curse alive!”
Stan’s account Dr Stan_Kruger chimed in with a patriotic cheer: “Hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie. NO DNA JUST RSA boys worldwide.”
The event was extra special for du Plessis, who made a grand entrance flanked by Springbok stars Siya Kolisi and Eben Etzebeth, both decked out in black following the Bokke’s recent victory over Australia in Perth. The trio’s presence underscored just how monumental this fight was for South African sports.
