Shark attack claims Plett man
A fatal shark attack occurred at Lookout Beach, Plettenberg Bay this morning, August 23. The attack took place at about 09:15. The victim, a Plett resident in his late 40s, died in hospital at about 11:00.
According to Deon Truter, NSRI Plett deputy station commander, the NSRI launched its rescue vessels, Airlink and Sally Joan at approximately 09:15. Upon arrival, the victim was found on the rocks. He had been assisted by other surfers and was suffering severe blood loss.
Local doctor, John Donald, together with NSRI crew and paramedics worked on the victim for about an hour before he was stable enough to be transported to hospital.
