Remember to fill up today
With a fuel price rise of almost R1 per litre to come at midnight tonight, today would be your last chance to fill up.
There are a few reasons for the price rise, including an increase in international petroleum product prices as well as an increase in the Brent crude oil price from $73 per barrel to $74 per barrel, a depreciation of the rand exchange rate and the implementation of a slate levy of 6,58c/l.
For those unaware, the slate levy is a mechanism implemented to finance under-recovery by the South African petroleum industry.
According to the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, “a slate levy is applicable on fuels to finance the balance in the Slate account when the Slate is in a negative balance”.
The changes you can expect to the fuel prices for coastal areas are:
- Petrol: 91c/l increase (new price of R17,58 for 95 octane petrol)
- Diesel (0,05% sulphur): 55,58c/l increase
- Diesel (0,005% sulphur): 54,58c/l increase
