Ratepayers Must Stay Alert for Warning Signs
The Plettenberg Residents and Ratepayers’ Association are keeping a keen eye out for potential issues, signaling their oversight role over Bitou’s municipal affairs.
During the association’s AGM on March 27 at the Piesang Valley community center, Chairperson Steve Pattinson stressed the importance of oversight and governance in Bitou’s smooth operation.
Pattinson acknowledged the town’s ongoing changes and instability, influenced by political uncertainties that impact day-to-day management.
He emphasized the necessity of confrontational yet respectful interactions in oversight activities. Pattinson highlighted the need for improved governance to combat inefficiencies and waste, noting their adverse effects on the community.
Despite these challenges, Pattinson urged a balanced approach focusing on future prospects, drawing lessons from Knysna’s rapid developments.
He underlined the community’s potential to collaborate effectively with municipal authorities, advocating for a stronger business presence to enhance community influence.
Pattinson praised past achievements under former mayor Dave Swart, especially in financial management, while expressing hopes for continued positive engagement with the new administration.
Looking ahead, Pattinson posed critical questions about managing population growth, infrastructure demands, and funding challenges while addressing water supply issues.
Overall, Pattinson stressed the need for vigilant oversight, community collaboration, and strategic planning to navigate Bitou’s future effectively.
