Premier Winde recoving well from Covid 19
Western Cape Premier Alan Winde’s condition has improved after he tested positive for Covid-19 last week.
He has been self-isolating at home since he began feeling ill on Sunday 5 July.
His weekly media digicam on Thursday 9 July was cancelled after he had decided to rest, on the advice of his doctor, due to having a slight fever and higher than usual blood glucose levels (he has diabetes).
On Tuesday evening, 14 July, he said in a statement he has been following the advice of his doctor and has been resting at home as much as possible.
“I am feeling significantly better today, and both my blood sugar levels and my temperature are down. I am still isolating at home and taking all the necessary precautions because I fall into a high-risk group.”
He urged people who are diabetic to continue to take their medication, as diabetics whose blood glucose is not controlled are at the highest risk of becoming seriously ill with Covid-19.
“It is incredibly important that if you are a diabetic, you take all measures possible to protect yourself from contracting Covid-19.
“The most effective way to do this is to stay home as much as possible, and to ensure that you take extra care when leaving home – including regular hand washing, wearing a mask and social distancing,” advised Winde.
