Plett land tribunal: No decision yet
No “firm decision” has been taken by the Bitou municipality to withdraw from the Eden joint municipal land planning tribunal.
A call for comment on a proposal to withdraw from the tribunal and instead establish a local tribunal has sparked widespread opposition from Plettenberg Bay residents claiming that such a move could lead to, among others, “corruption” and have massive cost implications for the municipality.
Residents had until November 24 to comment on the proposal following an advertisement on November 3 by the Bitou municipality calling for input.
Municipal spokesman Manfred van Rooyen explained that an item to review the current participation by Bitou municipality in the Eden tribunal was tabled at a council meeting on September 29.
“At the meeting it was resolved to elicit response from the public whether or not council should consider withdrawing from the Eden tribunal. No firm decision to actually withdraw has been taken yet. Following the closure for public comment the matter will be dealt with by council,” Van Rooyen said.
