Plett game culling plans causes a stir
Animal lovers are outraged after hearing that a culling operation has been scheduled at a Plettenberg Bay game park.
Concerned residents have taken to social media to voice their concerns over the plans for some animals of the Giraffe View Safari Camp on the outskirts of town.
Owner Leon de Kock however said that the culling operation is part of game management and that the property, which is home to giraffe, zebra, impala, wildebeest, waterbuck, bontebok, springbok and bushbuck, is over-stocked threefold at the moment. “If we don’t do this, the animals will starve this year,” De Kock said.
He said another option would be to relocate the animals. “If anyone is interested, they are welcome to let me know.”
De Kock added that he has delayed the inevitable for five years as he does not want to kill the animals.
