Wool&more – September 2014 Newsletter
It’s Spring and Summer is knocking on the door – as mentioned in last month’s newsletter, I saw the rep from Elle and want to let you know what’s hot and what’s not!
The only new yarns introduced are both craft yarns: Both extentions of the Cotton On range – Mega which is really chunky and has a component of acrylic mixed with cotton. It is ideal for bags, mats, flower pots, etc and the colours are interesting. Then there is Crimp: it is 100% cotton and has a “squiggly” effect. I think that a rustic, chunky pullover in this natural coloured cotton would look lovely. It is, however, essentially, a craft yarn. They have introduced pattern and idea books for both of these yarns – am waiting their arrival in store. Other than that, nothing new from Elle! I was so hoping that they would introduce a replacement to the now discontinued Baby Soft but I was sad to see that nothing replaces it. If you love Baby Soft 4ply, as I do, please pop in soon to buy what you need…there is still some stock left at the moment.
It’s so exciting for me to announce that from the end of September, I will have a range of exquisite, patterned sock wool, all the way from Germany. No one else keeps this range of Opal yarn so please do get in to see it. It’s going to be a winner!!
We are chatting to a gentleman from Plett who is wanting to start a new business, servicing and repairing sewing and knitting machines. Please will you let us know if you would be interested in using his services – just call us or email to give us some idea of your requirements and level of interest. Thanks.
There have been so many complaints, particularly from elderly ladies about the parking situation in Gibb Street. Our main problem/challenge, is that the staff from the municipal offices above wool&more, insist on parking right outside the shop for hours on end. There have been discussions, pleas and begging, to no avail. I finally went to chat to the Traffic department about it and what they have done, is painted parking spaces outside the shop and erected a sign notifying of 1 hour parking. That is, theoretically, good news for us and I applaude the traffic department for acting quickly and efficiently. However, we now need Law Enforcement to enforce this ruling!! Needless to say, the same “culprits” are still enjoying using the parking that I wish would remain available for our customers, particularly those who battle to walk. Anyway, please now be aware that the parking outside the shop is for one hour only! If you intend being in wool&more longer than an hour, please let us know when you get here and we will keep an eye on the clock for you.
There is still time to pop in and buy a raffle for the funky blanket (shown in the shop) – it’s only R10 and full proceeds will again be used to buy food for the soup kitchen.
Our current Community Project program – collecting beanies for the Oncology unit in George, is going well. We have already handed over in excess of 50 beanies to Annette, who is spear-heading this project. Please deliver or post your beanies to us to reach us before the end of October.
Reminder:
*Please note that we will be closed on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th September and Saturday 4th October due to the major Jewish holidays. We apologise for any inconvenience and wish all our Jewish customers Shana Tovah and well over the Fast.
Good News: We will be OPEN on Saturday 20th September from 9.30 – 12.30 and on Wednesday 24th September (public holiday) from 10h00 – 15h00. This is to make up time and opportunity for the days we need to close. Please use this time to your benefit!
