Incredible to consider that we are on the final dash to the end of 2018 and “Plett Season” looms. As I was “on leave” in October for 2 weeks (having cataracts removed and working part-time at the shop), there was no point in writing a newsletter – so here is a catch-up one. Thanks for bearing with me…
Hope you are all keeping well and creating gorgeous yarn items.
Times for trading:
Monday to Friday: from 10h00 to 16h00 except for Public Holidays which are from 09h30 to 12h30
Saturdays: We will be open EVERY FIRST & LAST Saturday from 09h30 to 12h30 and all public holidays until end November when our hours will amend for Season – these will be published again in our December newsletter – safe to say, we will be pulling out all the stops for December trading.
December: We will be OPEN Every Saturday and Every public holiday from 9.30 to 12.30 (except Tuesday 25th December and Tuesday 1st January when we will be Closed).
Mondays to Fridays: We will be OPEN from 10 am to 4 pm unless the days are public holidays (where 9.30 to 12.30 will apply).
Community Project Program:
We recently received a big box and in it were 5 gorgeous huge crocheted blankets from Jenny Moran in Cape Town – wow, what an amazing gesture! Thanks so, so much Jenny. Of course, they will be used for those in need in our local community, as do all our donations of clothes and blankets. We hope that we will be able to publish photos of those receiving them (we always do ask the recipients but don’t always get pics).
We received a photo and letter (see below) from Sister Yvonne who is running an amazing program for ladies who are pregnant and runs for the first 1000 days from conception. She covers nutrition, harmful substances, spousal care, etc etc all along their path – in the hope that the babies are born healthier and thus stand a better chance in their beginning years to flourish. Well done on this initiative Yvonne. And thanks to all who contributed to these babies and their moms.

Dear Knitters of Plett.
Re: First 1000 Days ( from conception to 2years of age).
On behalf of the babies who received jersey’s and blankets, we would like to thank you for your hard work and photos of each baby will follow.
Much appreciated
Sr. Y. Samuel.
A gentle reminder to please continue to let us have your warm, beautiful and generous blankets, beanies and baby clothes – they are always so needed.
Reminder: Knitted Knockers needed.
Unfortunately, our stock of knitted knockers has dwindled and we have had to turn ladies away who come to us for their knockers (soft and comfortable breast prostheses for ladies who have had mastectomies).
Please do pop into wool&more to get a kit and knit some for us (cup size C & D are most often requested) so that we can help those who need these great knockers.
New Yarns:
We have unpacked the new Katia yarns for summer – some beauties are in store for you.
The new Egyptian cotton Bora Bora is stunning knitted up as is the Creta, back after a brief absence – this is one of my favourite textured summer yarns. All “bobbly and soft”!! Other newbies also in – all fabulous! To make space, we have had to jettison some more yarn into our Specials Bins – now overflowing!! Come in to get your bargains of cotton and wool.
Elle’s new Cottonette has arrived and they have just published a free pattern for a summer top. It’s quite a chunky yarn with a 60% cotton content and would be great for a cool summer evening. The pattern link is below for you – let us know what you think of it, please.
Cowgirlblues aran and double knit pure merino has arrived and is Delicious! For me, the aran weight singles is one of the snuggliest yarns around.
Miss la Motte has just sent us some of her very decadent Lustre yarn (see photo below) – it comprises merino, kid mohair and silk with some polyamide – my goodness me, it’s decadent. And her pure merino 4ply range is en route and should arrive early this coming week – both the above Indi-dyers have hand dyed their yarns just for us so they are pretty unique and luscious!!
Knitting:
Some lovely patterns to try
We recently came across a shawl pattern that is called Winter Tears but has seen it knitted in Nurturing Fibres cotton in bright colours – it is simply gorgeous. Here is the link – may be to try for a summer shawl or early next year in merino for winter! Can’t wait to try it myself.

THE NEWS!!:
Here is something that may be of interest to someone wanting to relocate to beautiful Plett…
WINDS OF CHANGE
Seasons come and seasons go … change is inevitable.
My own personal need for change has been lying dormant for some time and recently has been waving its arms at me, beckoning.
Whilst I have the physical and mental stamina to do so, I am planning to sell my cute and comfortable townhouse here in Plett and my “baby”, wool&more in order to move onto new challenges, new shores and new delights.
So, if you or someone you know is wanting to relocate to beautiful Plett, here is a great opportunity.
Of course, this has not been an easy concept to “make public” – it’s been rattling around in my heart and mind for quite some time.
I love Plett. I love wool&more. I love my townhouse. And I love my friends and customers.
Winds of change have grown too strong to resist for any longer…..
So once my home and successful business are sold (preferably as a package – together), I will be going elsewhere to rest my head – and hopefully with HoneyB!
Until then, it’s business as usual – nothing changes until it does. No Sale, No Go!
Thank you for your love and support. You are very appreciated.
Joy
Hoping to see you all soon.
Joy Sachs
