From selling so much stock at cost and below to make space for new yarns, we will soon be filling up the gaps with our new ranges – Winter is almost upon us and we are hoping for a cold one, naturally. Also hoping for plenty of rain ….. fingers crossed.
Our Special SPECIAL:
For walk-in customers only (apologies to those of you from afar), we are offering a
10% discount on ALL regularly priced stock (yarn and accessories) for the following days only:
Thursday 29th March (10 am to 4 pm); Friday 30th and Saturday 31st March (9.30 to 12.30) and Monday 2nd April (9.30 to 12.30). Please take advantage of this unusual offer – Just for You, Just for Easter, Just to say Thank You!
Please note that Loyalty Cards are not applicable to the discounted stock.
Community Project Program:
An urgent plea was made by Rotary Anns in Plett for us to please get 250 kids’ beanies to them by the end of April (26th to be precise) for all the pupils of the Harkerville Primary school which is a very needy school situated in the rural area just outside central Plett.
A copy of the pattern we require to be used is below – standard beanie pattern, in any of the 3 sizes. The children are aged from 6 to around 14 years of age.
Because the beanies will be part of their uniform, they need to be knitted in Charity DK Maroon – two beanies can be knitted from one ball of Charity. And just so that you are not out of pocket, for every two maroon beanies brought in by the cutoff date, we will give you one ball of Charity DK (any colour) for Free (compliments Rotary Anns)!!! Couldn’t make it fairer – not so?

Thank you for your help!!
We do still hope that more blankets will come in for both babies (around 1m x 1,3m or bigger) and adults (around 1,2m x 1,5m or bigger) – these can be in any yarn, any colours and knitted or crocheted. We currently have 27 blankets in stock which makes a lovely colourful pile but as you can imagine, come, Winter will only be the proverbial tip of the iceberg of what will be needed to keep those in need warm. Good time to use up all your odds and ends – rid yourself of that old stash! If you would like some ideas on knitted blankets, please don’t hesitate to ask us. We would hate to turn folk away this Winter. Thanks a million.
Adult beanies will also be very appreciated – both projects are a great way to use up your stash so that you can freely, without a conscience, buy lovely new yarns for this Winter’s projects! Guilt Free!
(There are still some very reduced yarns to clear at wool&more now so do pop in to help us clear stock).
Katia Yarns:
The ship from Spain ought to be docking today which means that we should have our huge range of Katia Winter yarns in store by mid to late next week …. hope in time for the long weekend.
Just some of the newer yarns that we will be receiving are:
- Baby Tweed: knits as an aran weight, speckled and with a wool & cotton blend. Very different.
- Mousse is a curly, textured yarn comprising a wool and alpaca blend
- Winter Washi is a thick, luscious “tape” type yarn that is so soft and will knit very quickly. Mohair and viscose blend.
- Duende is so different and some great colours will be in – it knits as an aran weight, is acrylic and is textured with little soft “bits” in it. Lovely.
- Scotch Tweed is a viscose and wool blend, a serious yarn and knits as an aran weight. Love it.
- Catena Merino is a very luxurious, soft yarn, slightly “hairy” with a 78% wool content and superwash. Light and cuddly.
- We have kept Azteca in years before but have increased the range – besides the normal chunky Azteca, we will also be receiving the double knit version. Variegated in stunning colours.
- Polaris, in rainbow colours, will be back due to popular demand too….. and lots more. Can’t wait for the boxes to arrive!
Moth-Gone:
Some years ago, we researched all the natural moth and fish moth repellents and in the form of a “guest soap slab”, we have been having these made. Initially, we had them made only for the shop and when ladies commented on the lovely smell of the yarn, we decided to sell them. They have proven hugely effective, and thus very in demand – currently, they are R14-50 per slab and with effect from the batch we get after 1st April, they will be R16-00 each. Whilst they are not for human consumption, they are made entirely of natural products and thus are totally Non-Toxic. A number of wool and alpaca producers have opted to use these Moth-Gone slabs and we send a number of them all over the country.
Please do not use the commercial Moth Balls (naphthalene) – they are highly toxic.

Please do scroll down the open link to read the interview – it may change your mind about “pirating” patterns!
Crochet Corner:
We are still looking for a lady who is excellent at crochet (and knitting) and has the ability to teach the correct techniques of both skills. We would like her to be able to do classes of various levels and possibly present some workshops on new and exciting skills. We thought a retired domestic science teacher would be ideal! This is not a full-time position but will create the ability to work flexi hours and earn well.
There may also be the need for her to be able to do knitting and crochet projects for customers, if possible.
Please do contact us for more details – pop in to chat to us. Many thanks.
Knitting
Above is a link of a lovely Elle pattern using their new Family Knit Vintage yarn (or any double knit). Enjoy it and please do let us know how it turns out for you.
Times for trading:
Monday to Friday: from 10h00 to 16h00 except for Public Holidays which are from 09h30 to 12h30
Saturdays: We will be OPEN EVERY Saturday from 09h30 to 12h30 and all public holidays until the end of August for your convenience (effective 31st March).
Reminder: for those of you who have complained about our “official” opening time of 10am, please do understand that as a sole trader (and without staff), there are often days when the banking is to be done (banks only open at 9), stationery to be acquired, reps to see and even a dentist appointment to be attended. We are most often at the shop well before 10 am but we would rather play it safe by stating the 10 am opening time. Hope you understand. Many thanks to those of you who do… appreciated.
B Y O B: Reminder!:
Please remember that we are working to get less plastic into the environment – we ask that you please remember to Bring Your Own Bags (BYOB) when shopping at wool&more (and elsewhere)…. lovely re-usable fabric bags are the answer and help so much. Or, crochet / knit your very own bags! We have some lovely bags to buy at wool&more including the beautifully made craft bags by Brilliantmommy!
