Next week is the Winter Solstice – middle of Winter and as I write this newsletter, temperatures are in excess of 30*C!! Crazy and ridiculous …. but here we go, fans blowing and energy levels low, low, low!!
Community Project Program:
Dear Joy,
Attached a photo of the handover of beanies to some students at Harkerville School, on Tuesday this week – a cold morning so appropriate to give them something warm.
From Plett Rotary Anns, sincere thanks to you and your knitters, for your assistance in getting the beanies knitted before the cold weather set in. For us a project successfully completed.
Kind regards,
Marjorie Henley
Rotary Anns (Plett chapter) kindly sent us a photo of some of the kids with their beanies as well as a letter of thanks to you all for the fantastic effort in getting each child fitted with a warm beanie (for when Winter does arrive!!). Thanks again to you all – huge gratitude.
Unfortunately, there was quite a serious fire that broke out in Qolweni, a township next to the Industrial area – we were able to assist the victims, who lost everything, with a big bag of your blankets. About 10 households were affected. Thank you for the opportunity to be able to assist.
Below is a letter from Yvette Wilschut who does amazing work in the community and we try to support her as much as possible with blankets, yarn, kid’s clothing, etc. Thanks, Yvette!!
Hello to all the amazing ladies who make the incredible blankets. Joy often gives them to me for the Victim Support Room at the Police Station and I cannot even find the words to describe what a comfort they are, especially to the children! They just create a little safe surrounding and security for the child and the teddy bear they cuddle that we give them. Each and every blanket is an absolute blessing and I cannot find the words to thank you all! As you sit there and make them, please have a huge smile on your face and joy in your heart for what you are doing. xxx
Please do keep the blankets coming in – a guideline on size would be around 1,1m x 1,5m for adults and around 90cm x 1,2m for babies/kids. This really is a guide – so bigger and slightly smaller would be fine too. Any colours, any patterns, knitted or crocheted – your choice as to how to make a difference to someone this Winter!! Thanks in advance – very appreciated.
Crochet Corner:
Omega Jacobs has offered her skills and knowledge as a crochet teacher. Welcome to Plett, Omega!
Should you wish to learn to crochet as a beginner or have some specific needs to be met, as an intermediate level crocheter, please do contact us and we will arrange for a lesson for you at wool&more. Duration of each lesson is 1,5 hours and by appointment only. Please call and book your lesson/s today.
Crochet Workshop – Celtic Weave square:
On Friday 27th July 2018, we will be holding a fun morning where Omega will be showing you all you need to know about this amazing and different square called Celtic Weave! The workshop will run from 9.30am (registration at 9.15 at wool&more) to 1.00pm in a friendly “coffee shop” environment and will include refreshments, instruction and full printed pattern/instruction details. The sampler below was done in Eco Fusion as a four-ply. You are welcome to bring your own materials – four colours of yarn and your crochet hooks or purchase from wool&more prior to the workshop (the Eco Fusion is so soft and being a blend of cotton and bamboo, has a delightful sheen).
Please note that this workshop is for intermediate level crochet folk only – not beginners (ie: must have a basic knowledge of crochet techniques and stitches).
Price for this delightful, informative morning will be R365-00 per delegate.
Numbers are limited so please secure your booking by paying at wool&more very soon!
(If the response is very good, we will be holding another one early in August).
Elle yarns have just launched their newest CAL where they are presenting a new square pattern every week. They have called it Vintalicious because they are using their new Family Knit Vintage DK collection of colours (available at wool&more, of course!). Get started with yours – and if you need any assistance with any of the squares, we can contact Omega for her help!!
Knitting:
Great News: we will be holding Kid’s Knitting Classes for beginners and intermediate level kids during the July school holidays. Boys and Girls – have some fun these holidays and learn a skill that is so beneficial in many ways!!
These lessons will be held in small groups and will run for 2 hours (see schedule below). Refreshments will be provided at all classes, and for the beginners, knitting needles and yarn will be provided and included in the R195-00 fee per child. A detailed manual with full written instructions will be available from wool&more at an additional cost of R45-00.
Should your child wish to learn more after their first lesson (as a beginner), they can book for an intermediate lesson, bringing their own yarn and needles at a cost of R170-00 per child for the 2-hour lesson.
Because we expect a great response, please secure your booking/s early by letting us have details and payment at wool&more!
Ages of the kids: from approximately 6 to approximately 11 years old
Dates and Times:
Monday 9th, Wednesday 11th and Friday 13th July 2018 from 10 am to 12 pm
Tuesday 10th and Thursday 12th from 2-00pm to 4 pm.
We have some good quality wooden clothes hangers available and a really easy and inexpensive knitted method to cover them – great for your clothes and makes a super gift!! Pop in soon for some.
Our Blanket-in-a-Bag kits are more and more popular – the finished blanket is approximately 1,2m x 1,7m, it’s so easy and such fun to knit and even a beginner would complete a stunning blanket!! Each one is unique and they are always available at wool&more – if you would like your own colour scheme, we will happily pack a bag just for you!! Yarn, needles and instructions are included – Ready To Go!! Beware though: it is highly addictive to do!!! We have a sample at the shop for you to see – get yours (and your moms-in-law, sisters, employees kit) today!!
New Yarns:
The charity has recently launched another “winner”…. they have 5 new and delightful variegated (printed) yarns in their Chunky and Seriously Chunky ranges. They work up beautifully and are ideal for garments and blankets alike.
Times for trading:
Monday to Friday: from 10h00 to 16h00 except for Public Holidays which are from 09h30 to 12h30
Saturdays: We will be OPEN EVERY Saturday from 09h30 to 12h30 and all public holidays until the end of August for your convenience.
B Y O B: Reminder!
Please remember that we are working to get less plastic into the environment – we ask that you please remember to Bring Your Own Bags (BYOB) when shopping at wool&more (and elsewhere)…. lovely re-usable fabric bags are the answer and help so much. Or, crochet / knit your very own bags! We have some lovely bags to buy at wool&more.
