This newsletter will be short and sweet! No nonsense today ….!
Community Project Programs:
The response to our plea for blankets and beanies has been overwhelming – it’s been heartwarming to see how many of you came forward with your knitted and crocheted blankets and beanies. We can only say a HUGE THANK YOU to all who have contributed so warmly and generously…. too many names to mention but many ladies did two and three blankets each (Carol, Fransie, Averil, Jean from Cape Town …. to name only a few). Thanks again and again.
And again, to Saprotex for their incredibly generous donation of yarn. Such a bunch of Stars, one and all! Those who have not yet brought in their blankets – please still do so. This is an ongoing need. Thanks.
We recently handed a huge bag of baby beanies, jerseys and blankets, lovingly donated by you all, to Hope Centre. These amazing ladies offer support, counselling and assistance to teen pregnancy girls here in Plett and the Crags. Thanks for your fantastic work. We have no doubt that there will be many more newborns this winter who will warmer than they would have been without your contribution.
Since our plea in the June newsletter, 14 blankets came in and 63 beanies (with some scarves too)!! That is amazing! Give yourselves a huge pat on the back!
Moth Gone slabs:
As you may know, we have formulated and had made, little slabs which are entirely natural which do a fantastic job of deterring moths and fish moths (and even daddy long leg spiders) from your stash, linen cupboards, etc. Please consider switching from moth balls (which are hugely toxic and stink) to these slabs. They smell delicious (though not for human consumption!) and are totally non-toxic.
Hints and Tips:
Below are two helpful and interesting links to knitting a swatch before one embarks on a project – maybe, just maybe, these will inspire some more of you to take the time and trouble to do this. It’s so worthwhile!! Am I nagging again??

Crochet Corner:
Fantasy Blanket workshops were very successful and we have one more booked for this coming week – late notice but needed to get some ladies altogether! Only a couple more places remaining so hurry and book – payment reserves your spot.
For Whom: Anybody who is not a total beginner in crochet (knowledge of basic stitches is a must)
When: Wednesday 12th July 08h30 to 15h00
Where: Le Fournil coffee shop, Look Out Centre
Cost: R480-00 per delegate, includes refreshments (tea, coffee, biscuits mid morning and a light lunch comprising quiche of your choice off the menu and salad with orange juice), tuition and yarn (the sampler will be worked on in 10 to 15 colours of 4ply acrylic yarn, supplied by wool&more) – you will have a fantastic choice of colours from which to choose.
What you need to bring: Pen, your crochet hooks, sewing up needle and some stitch markers
BOOKINGS: Essential!! There are only two spaces now available and full payment when booking will secure your spot at the workshop.
This Fantasy Blanket is an heirloom project and is infinitely more exquisite when done in cottons and bamboo (all natural yarns) than in acrylic yarns. Please bear this in mind when considering making your own item after the workshop.
Here is a photo of one kind of Fantasy Blanket (can also be done in straight rows). No photo can do this work justice!
Remember that we offer crochet lessons at wool&more for beginners, intermediate levels, or just for something specific you may wish to learn. Please do call us and book your two hour lesson/s.
Stylecraft have just advised that from 12th July, they will be running a fabulous Crochet-a-Long using their gorgeous Special DK yarn. 16 x 100gm balls will be required for the project. At normal retail value that would be around R1024-00. We will be kitting the yarn for you at the reduced price of R890-00 for all 16 balls bought up front…. a great saving. You will need to book a kit (they will be especially made up for you) by approximately 13th July 2017 (giving you time to decide on whether you are wanting to do the CAL and save by ordering the kit from wool&more).
As we did last year, we will be offering lessons focusing only on the challenging aspects of this specific CAL. These lessons will be two hours long and will cost R90-00 per session. Each week a new pattern will be obtainable by you from Stylecraft (see link below) and a week later, the lesson will be held only relating to the previous week’s pattern. This is not a general crochet lesson but just a way for you to hone your skills pertaining to that specific square and only for those who are having challenges with the particular square of the previous week. So you really do need to keep up to date each week with the published squares that Stylecraft put out. The lessons will be on Thursday afternoons from 13.30 to 15.30 at wool&more and bookings will be essential. (Should the demand be greater than we can accomodate, we are open to creating another lesson slot for this CAL).
This is a real beaut and the yarn is outstanding to work with and to use …. for many, many years!
Fair warning:
Like last year, we will be closing for a well-earned rest from
Monday 9th October to Tuesday 24th October, inclusive.
Life will be back to normal at wool&more from Wednesday 25th October. Will keep reminding you so that you are well stocked with yarn whilst we are closed.

SIX LITTLE STORIES” – well worth the 30 seconds to read!
{1} Once all villagers decided to pray for rain.
On the day of prayer all the people gathered, but only one boy came with an umbrella.
That’s FAITH.
{2} When you throw babies in the air, they laugh because they know you will catch them.
That’s TRUST.
{3} Every night we go to bed without any assurance of being alive the next morning, but still we set the alarms to wake up.
That’s HOPE.
{4} We plan big things for tomorrow in spite of zero knowledge of the future.
That’s CONFIDENCE.
{5} We see the world suffering, but still we get married and have children.
That’s LOVE.
{6} On an old man’s shirt was written a sentence ‘I am not 80 years old; I am sweet 16 with 64 years of experience.’
That’s ATTITUDE.
Have a happy month and live your life like the six stories.
As always, sent to you with much love and gratitude for your support and the fun and laughter you bring to wool&more!
Lots of Love
Joy Sachs
