Different Knitted Ball:
A customer showed us a knitted ball which does not require stuffing, is great to use up those little bits of yarn in your stash and require some co-ordination putting them together (lovely challenge)! Many thanks Lynda, for sharing this with us! The link below gives the pattern and instructions on how to construct the ball.
It is not only great for babies and kids, but makes a terrific “stress ball” for adults. Still time to make some for Christmas gifts … get going on them now….!

Community Project Programs:
Things have been rather quiet on this front – we never stop wanting and needing items for distribution. So please, please …. keep the newborn beanies coming in (perfect for knitting in the warmer weather) and the strips for blankets: any width, any colour but all need to be 1 metre long. These are sewn together to make fabulous, colourful and warm blankies for babies, kids and rugs for adults for winter. If you are feeling particularly generous, we would love to get some finished blankets too … any size, colour, knitted or crocheted. In only three or four months time, cooler weather will be upon us and there are just so many folk who would love to keep warm and be cheered by a colourful blankie. Closer to winter, we will probably have some projects for specific needs which we will let you have as they come into our awareness.
If you master making the balls above, please keep making them for kids at schools in the area – they love playing with them as they can’t break or damage anything when throwing them around and they are so colourful.
New Yarns:
For the past two years, we have wanted to stock the Stylecraft Special DK range. It is a beautiful acrylic yarn which compares, in quality, with the elle Pure Gold range. The colours are fantastic and it knits and washes beautifully. But space, being so hard to come by, has been our resistance.
Finally, this week, we condensed some stock on shelves and have made available one bin for the Special DK – only ten colours have just arrived and are fantastic!! Please pop in to see and feel …. you won’t be disappointed. Hopefully, we can design another new stand for many more colours of this range.
It’s a fact that elle (Saprotex) will be doing a major launch for winter early next year so space becomes even more of a challenge…. eish!!!
Another very special find which is going to sell very quickly, the product called “Magic Ball” by Adele’s Mohair. It is a ball of yarn and ribbon knotted together in gorgeous colours and textures and knits up beautifully. Absolutely stunning for a shawl … and each would be unique.
Manos del Uruguay in some amazing colours has arrived. This has to be one of the best “exotic” yarns around. Their blends of silk, alpaca, cotton and merino are fantastic and are all hand-dyed in open kettles in the rural areas of Uruguay.
Talking of hand-dyed: Mukuti Stud, a South African alpaca breeder, have hand-dyed some pure lace weight alpaca just for us at wool&more (took some arm-twisting, make no mistake!!). It’s just exquisite … no other way to describe their quality and colour ways. Wow and thank you dear Verena!
December Trading Hours:
Until the 7th January 2017, we will be open every Saturday AND public holiday from 09H30 to 12H30, for your convenience. Our normal hours apply for Mondays to Fridays being 10h00 to 16h00 (unless it is a public holiday in which case we will close at 12h30). Hope to see you all soon.
Gift Vouchers:
Our wool&more gift vouchers, available in any denomination, make a fabulous gift for anyone who enjoys working with yarn. We have a really excellent range of yarns and accessories so consider our gift vouchers for Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries … any occasion would suit a wool&more gift voucher.
Bag Making Competition:
Because we are always wanting to use less plastic, Lin has suggested that we hold a bag making competition to encourage us all to use non-plastic bags … reuse over and over and over again! We will be giving you details early next year. Meanwhile, Carol, the “Plett Queen of Recycle” (!!) has brought in some fabric bags for you to buy when you buy your yarn … they are brightly coloured, made by locals and hold a lot of groceries, yarn, etc. Get yours soon (at a very reasonable price) and remember to always bring in your own reusable bags – wherever possible. Many thanks.
