Local Crafters Group:
Kathy, a local crafter, has begun a delightful Plett group called Creative Crafters – the ladies meet every second Tuesday evening from 19.00 till about 21.00 for coffee, chats and to have a chance to create with others – they normally bring their current projects and often, help each other along. It’s really a lot of fun and special to just be “sisters” for the evening. The next meeting is on Tuesday 30th August – if you are interested in joining please contact us to let Kathy have your phone number to add to the whatsapp group. Whilst there is no charge for the evening usually held at Kathy’s home, you are welcome to contribute to help cover tea/coffee/biscuit costs. We at wool&more would like to subsidise the cost of an evening every so often and are thinking of doing so on the 20th September at the Beacon Island Resort (to give Kathy a break!) – tea & coffee and savoury snack platters will be served so the evening there will cost you a mere R20-00 each – wool&more will pay the rest. Please let us know as soon as possible whether you would be interested in joining the group and whether you would like to attend the evening at the Beacon Island. Look forward to seeing you!
Community Project Program:
As Winter seems to be drawing to a close (though we guarantee some fierce weather in September / October in Plett!), the rush for beanies, blankies and jerseys is almost over until next autumn. So very many of the needy community in Plett have benefitted from the care and generosity of all who have contributed – I feel humbled by your efforts. Many, many thanks again (and again) for your support. Let’s keep up the momentum…
Our on-going projects are for knitted / crocheted toys for the local clinics as well as for newborn baby beanies. Below is a lovely ball pattern (as sent out a while ago) to knit with all your bits and pieces – it’s easy and great fun for the kids to play with.
Knitted Multi Coloured Ball
Yarn in approx. 4 different colours (if using DK, use 3,5mm needles)
Cast on 36 st
Knit 1 row to end
Next 2 rows: knit to last stitch, turn
Next 2 rows: knit to last 2 stitches, turn
Next 2 rows: knit to last 3 stitches, turn
Continue in this manner, leaving one more stitch at each end until 8 st are left at each end.
Next 2 rows: knit to end, taking in last 8 st.
Break off yarn and join in another colour repeating all the above.
Cast off. Stuff well and sew up.
Doortjie Gersbach crochet workshop:
This was such a success and the seven ladies who were lucky enough to attend really enjoyed it and benefited enormously. Now we would love to see some of your Ripple Blanket and Jacket creations, completed, please!!
Summer Projects and new yarn:
Just because winter is moving north, does not mean you should pack away your knitting needles, yarn and crochet hooks!! There are some fantastic patterns arriving from Katia for working in the most gorgeous cottons (colourful and variegated is very “IN” this summer) and we have a really excellent local market for cotton yarn as well. Pop in for some ideas to inspire you to keep at your craft all summer long. And below, see the link for a fabulous crocheted poncho …. You will love it!

And talking of new yarn: we have managed to twist some arms and get a batch of stunning (and I mean Stunning) Alpaca hand spun, hand dyed yarn from a local Alpaca farmer. The colours are either pastel or brighter coloured variegated and are exquisite. Really to create an unique and phenomenal item for yourself (or for a gift for someone very special).
Free patterns from Nurturing Fibres:
And talking of local suppliers of cotton, one of my favourites is from Nurturing Fibres – Their yarn is hand-dyed and mostly organic products used and they have a lovely selection of free patterns for you to use and enjoy – see the link below.

Moth-Gone:
We will no longer be able to supply the excellent moth and fish-moth natural repellent – as we still have some stock, get yours quickly. Apologies for that.
Price Increases:
Just a gentle reminder that, like death and taxes, price increases are inevitable! We had notification from Saprotex (manufacturers of Elle and Charity yarns) that prices increase from 1st August. We have tried our best to contain these increases for your benefit.
Trading Hours:
Monday to Friday from 10 till 4 and every first and last Saturday (and all public holidays) we are open from 9.30 till 12.30.
Holiday Planned:
It’s been so jolly long since I have had a holiday so I have planned a short get-away round mid October. After much thought and consideration, I have decided to close the shop for seven trading days and have a complete rest (not worrying about how things are going here). In all my (many) years in retail, I have never closed for a holiday so it feels like pushing the boundaries quite substantially! Last date of trading: Wednesday 12th October and re-opening Monday 24th October. Hope to spend some special time with my family. Will keep reminding you through subsequent newsletters!
Living “on the edge” can sometimes be exciting, enthralling and pure joy … to help you along, see a great method of doing your knitting edges by daring to click on the link below!!

The Juggler:
Watch this and laugh lots – it’s outstanding!! Much like what we women have to do (and as dangerous) on a daily basis!
