As this is getting typed then sent, the weather has turned and I have reached for my cardigan – Winter rocks!
Wishing you all a wonderful Easter weekend and to our Jewish customers, Chag Sameach as Pesach rolls in.
No offers have been presented for my home or shop as yet so guess what? We are still working hard to keep wool&more the best little yarn shop around! And would like to express our sincere appreciation for your support, friendship and comments. Thanks so very much.
Community Project Program:
The amazing contributions you have made to our Community Project Program are now quickly leaving the shop for their intended destinations: clinics, creches, trauma centres, etc. Many, many thanks to you all for supporting our local community who are always in need of comfort and warmth. Just this morning, Joan brought in a huge pile of crocheted blankets …. so much work and so very appreciated. And others have brought in bundles of beanies, ponchos, jerseys (Lalie, you are a star in the jersey department!) – wow, how amazing! Thanks again ladies – we are truly grateful.
When we called George regarding the collection of the bag of beanies and jerseys for Kranshoek Kleurterskool, we were so sad and shocked to hear that he had passed away – our condolences to his family. We have since contacted the school directly and asked them to collect their cuddly goodies. If anyone knows the staff there, maybe you could remind them of the stuff waiting for them.
We have a number of strips which have come in which need to be sewn or crocheted together to make blankets …. anyone volunteering to assist, please? Much easier and quicker than assembling squares for blankets, for sure. Thanks.
Knitting:
The lacy snood for which we shared the pattern last month is proving to be a real win …. and finally, we managed to find a gorgeous model for it so the photos below depict some of the variations one can use in this soft, versatile accessory. A massive shout out to dear Marsja who was so obliging as we took photos – you are such fun and make a great model! The pattern is below again, as a reminder.
LACY SNOOD / SCARF
Materials: 100gm Stylecraft Special DK yarn and 10mm knitting needles
Cast on 47 st
Knit one row
Next and all following rows: K1 (yf as if to purl, K2tog) to end of row
Continue until ball is almost finished
Knit the last row and cast off.
Join cast on and cast off edges.
Note: it’s not easy to correct errors so keep your eye on the job! Also, the first lacy row is challenging – thereafter, gently pull down the stitch to be knitted on the left-hand needle to help make space for the fat needles to insert.
A fabulous gift and many ways to wear it.
New Yarns:
We are waiting patiently for the Katia ship to dock – hoping that next week, we will get our boxes of new yarns (or the week thereafter, to be realistic)!
Meanwhile, after months of an empty shelf, Rhapsody from elle is finally back in stock. It’s a soft, cuddly, 200gm ball of chunky variegated yarn (very similar to Mischief) that can be used in so many applications. Below is a link to their newest pattern for you to enjoy. We also have a lovely “Sloppy Joe” jersey pattern (and sample) at the shop. Pop in to to see…
An easy textured blanket pattern follows – it’s no problem to adjust the size (and yarn) for this blanket. Try one soon – you will enjoy working it.
And talking of blankets, we are still making up and selling the gorgeous (addictive) Blanket-in-a-Bag kits. They are so easy, looks and feels amazing and are so relaxing and fun to do. Pop in to choose your colourway to suit your requirements.
There is still so very much yarn available at cost (and some below cost) to clear – please grab yours before it all sells out.
