Because there is not much happening (besides the shop overflowing with new yarns), we will keep this newsletter short and sweet – thanks to all of you who are so supportive of wool&more and of all our marketing endeavours, news forum, facebook page, etc. Hugely appreciated.
Community Project Program:
After chatting with Rotary Anns, we have agreed to extend the delivery date to Friday 11th May 2018!! As you know, an urgent plea was made by Rotary Anns in Plett for us to please get 250 kids’ beanies to them for all the pupils of the Harkerville Primary school which is a very needy school situated in the rural area just outside central Plett.
A copy of the pattern we require to be used is below – standard beanie pattern, in any of the 3 sizes. The children are aged from 6 to around 14 years of age.
Because the beanies will be part of their uniform, they need to be knitted in Charity DK Maroon – two beanies can be knitted from one ball of Charity (and FIVE from two balls)! And just so that you are not out of pocket, for every two maroon beanies brought in by the cut off date, we will give you one ball of plain Charity DK (any colour) for Free (compliments Rotary Anns)!!! Couldn’t make it fairer – not so?
We are currently just short of the 100 beanie mark, being less than half the number of beanies that are required!! Please let’s all help to make this happen…. a massive shout-out to those of you who have brought in piles of beanies – your efforts have not gone unnoticed – and very appreciated. Thank you so much.

Thank you for your help!!
As usual, we do still hope that more blankets will come in for both babies (around 1m x 1,3m or bigger) and adults (around 1,2m x 1,5m or bigger) – these can be in any yarn, any colours and knitted or crocheted. We have had a lovely run of blankets coming in lately: currently have 43 blankets in stock which makes a lovely colourful pile but as you can imagine, come, Winter will only be the proverbial tip of the iceberg of what will be needed to keep those in need warm. Great opportunity to use up all your odds and ends – rid yourself of that old stash!
Katia Yarns:
As mentioned earlier, wool&more is bursting at the seams: the Katia stock arrived last week and whilst we were aware of what we ordered, were totally unprepared to see the masses of yarn arriving! And conversely, totally panicked as to where it will all go!
As a result, we have decided to remove a number of last year’s lines to make a place for the new ones. These will be going into the Specials Basket at Less a Third!! We will be popping these lines onto the pile as we clear them off the shelves. Please pop in regularly to get what you can
…. it’s a great start to getting your winter yarn at almost cost price!!
Some of the lines which have just come in are:
- Baby Tweed: knits as an aran weight, speckled and with a wool & cotton blend. Very different.
- Mousse is a curly, textured yarn comprising a wool and alpaca blend
- Winter Washi is a thick, luscious “tape” type yarn that is so soft and will knit very quickly. Mohair and viscose blend. Knitted up amazingly!
- Duende is so different and some great colours will be in – it knits as an aran weight, is acrylic and is textured with little soft “bits” in it. Lovely.
- Scotch Tweed is a viscose and wool blend, a serious yarn and knits as an aran weight. Love it.
- Catena Merino is a very luxurious, soft yarn, slightly “hairy” with a 78% wool content and superwash. Light and cuddly and already proving to be very popular.
- We have kept Azteca in years before but have increased the range – besides the normal chunky Azteca, we will also be receiving the double knit version. Variegated in stunning colours.
- Polaris, in rainbow colours, will be back due to popular demand too.
- …. and lots more.
Crochet Corner:
We are still looking for a lady who is excellent at crochet (and knitting) and has the ability to teach the correct techniques of both skills. We would like her to be able to do classes of various levels and possibly present some workshops on new and exciting skills. We thought a retired domestic science teacher would be ideal but not an absolute necessity! This is not a full-time position but will create the ability to work flexi hours and earn well.
There may also be the need for her to be able to do knitting and crochet projects for customers, if possible – optional extra!
Please do contact us for more details – pop in to chat with us. Many thanks.
Knitting:
What a lovely idea for a different looking scarf: would be amazing in some of the variegated Katia yarns just in!
