Bitou 10 Schools receives donation from Computers for Africa
The Bitou 10 Schools are recipient of a generous donation from the Netherlands based NGO, Computers for Africa, established by Jef Verschuren and Saskia Krijger.
Jef’s parents, Raymond and Anga Verschuren handed over 35 computers, 1 printer and 3 tablets to Formosa Primary last week. The computers and printer will be used in the school’s computer laboratory and the tablets will be used by the ELSEN unit – a class for children with special educational needs.
Computers for Africa will be delivering more computers to Murray High School, Kranshoek Primary, Harkerville Primary and Born In Africa in the next few weeks.
“Computers for Africa is delighted to know that our computer donations will assist the children to become computer literate and thereby have a chance in life for a better future. Together with our local partners we can help bridging the digital divide between Africa and the Western world, by equipping the next generation with the skills needed to work in a global environment. We would like to thank the Bitou 10 Foundation, the Denron Komatsu Community Centre and the Bitou 10 schools for their efforts to make this happen and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship.” Jef Verschuren, Computers for Africa.
“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Computers for Africa,”said Kim Weyer, CEO, The Bitou 10 Foundation. “ These computers will enable the Bitou primary schools to use computer-based Literacy and Numeracy programmes provided by the Western Cape Education Department and High School learners will use the computers to do internet research for their assignments.”
At the informal handover ceremony last week, Formosa Primary’s Principal, Mr Colin Wildeman thanked Computers for Africa for their generous donation and assured them that the computers would be fully utilized.
