CapeNature has no option but to ‘disclaim’
Matt Covarr’s comments in his letter ‘Is Robberg Nature Reserve losing its shine?’ (visit www.cxpress.co.za and click on the Letters page of issue 336) have merit, but in this instance CapeNature has my support.
Mr Covarr, or for that matter any visitor to Robberg, would have noticed the numerous ‘disclaimer’ signs placed at strategic points in the reserve. Regrettably, these signs form part of the ever-increasing drift toward the nannification of society. We have taken our lead from that bastion of democracy, the United Kingdom.
One can visualise teams of lawyers waiting in the wings to pounce the moment a hiker sprains an ankle, or worse. Most who visit Robberg do appreciate its raw beauty, but there are always those who should stay at home… but don’t. CapeNature has to cater for these folk.
As for the stainless steel, agreed – it’s not pretty but rope usually involves high maintenance.
