Last chance to register to vote
SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS – To vote in the elections, you must register as a voter. You only have to register once, unless you move (within South Africa) or your voting district boundaries change.
To register as a voter, you must be a South African citizen, be at least 16 years old (you can only vote from age 18); have a green, bar-coded ID book; smartcard ID; or valid Temporary Identity Certificate (TIC). No other forms of ID may be accepted. Only original documents (no copies) are accepted.
Final registration weekend
Apply for registration at the voting station for your voting district on the final registration weekend for the 2019 National and Provincial Elections this weekend, 26 to 27 January.
Voting stations will be open from 08:00 to 17:00, both on Saturday and Sunday.
Check details
To check your registration details, send an SMS with your ID number to 32810 (R1 per SMS). You may also download the IEC mobile app and enter your ID number.
To check your registration details online, visit www.elections.org.za
It is advised that voters check their details at their usual voting station during the final registration weekend on 26 to 27 January.
The Electoral Commission advises that it can take up to seven working days for the registration application to be processed.
