Kampher still missing from Wittedrift after Two Months
It has been two months since Deon Kampher went missing in Wittedrift, Plettenberg Bay, and his family is still hanging on to the hope that he will be found safe.
A 66-year-old Hornlee resident, Kampher lives with his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. On Friday 7 August, his son Fanus Leo took him to see family in Wittedrift. Around midday on Saturday 8 August, Leo’s father went for a walk and has not returned ever since.
On Saturday 15 August, the family stumbled on their first lead. “A farmer told us they had seen my father walking along the dirt road towards the N2,” Leo said. He thinks someone must have picked his father up at some point.
“Surely somebody must have given him a lift. But, sometimes he struggles to talk and express himself, and can be very easily misunderstood.
It has been incredibly difficult for us. Everyone in the house misses him, it’s emptier now, and sometimes I’ll just go sit in his room and wish he was back home,” Leo said.
According to Plettenberg Bay police spokesperson Captain Marlene Pieterse, police are still urgently seeking information regarding Kampher.
She urged anyone with information to contact Sergeant Columbus Mtshazi on 073 367 7193 or 044 501 1908.
“At the time of his disappearance he was clothed in denim jeans, a black T-shirt and brown jacket,” she said.
