Garden Route District Municipality sponsors tree planting
Garden Route District Municipality sponsors tree planting day at the Garden Route Botanical Garden on Friday, 5 July 2019.
On Friday 5 July, 1500 trees will be planted at the Garden Route Botanical Garden as part of the ongoing activities hosted by Greenpop during their annual Eden Festival of Action.
The Garden Route Botanical Garden (GRBG) is located in George, Western Cape and borders the Outeniqua Nature Reserve.
The Garden focuses on plants endemic to the Southern Cape region. The GRBG is run by a private trust the GRBG Trust – a registered environmental NGO with PBO status. The garden was officially opened 17 years ago by members of the Southern Cape branch of the Botanical Society (Bot Soc), local environmentalists and the community of George.
This tree planting day is made possible by the generous donation of funds from the Garden Route District Municipality, as well as Greenpop’s ongoing corporate and individual donors.
In addition, a environmental art mural will painted by participants at the Garden Route Environmental Education Centre within the Garden Route Botanical Garden. Our Art for Awareness mural project is lead by local artist, Chris Auret and includes collaborative components from Eden Festival of Action participants.
To volunteer and get involved in this action-packed day, please RSVP here.
Who is Greenpop?
Greenpop is a social enterprise on a mission to (re)connect people with the planet. They plant trees through urban greening and reforestation projects, spread environmental education, and activate people through green workshops and events.
Greenpop was founded in 2010 and has since planted over 100 000 indigenous and fruit trees at schools and other urban sites, community farms as well as forests across South Africa, Zambia and Tanzania.
More than the number of trees, Greenpop is inspired by the hands that have helped to plant the trees and the further thousands that have joined Greenpop’s eco-education programmes and made a commitment to be custodians of our beautiful planet.
