Festival of action for the eco minded
Greenpop, an award-winning social-environmental NPO, is bringing their seventh Festival of Action to the Eden District this year.
The aim of this festival is to regenerate habitats and restore ecosystems, as well as creating mass environmental impact by planting indigenous trees, building beehives, holding eco-education workshops, and creating environmental art.
Join the festival as a participant
Come join Greenpop over three weeks, from 23 June to 15 July, as they plant thousands of trees, connect with the local communities, partake in sustainability workshops and begin the process of re-greening the Garden Route in the wake of the June 2017 fires.
Greenpop also needs the support of the local community to assist in being part of this pivotal movement towards restoring the Eden District.
So how can you get involved?
As a participant
Join Greenpop as a participant in the festival for one, two or three weeks. This is a fully facilitated programme that will include accommodation, meals, transport to planting sites, workshops and post-planting parties.
Weeks 1 and 2 are geared towards Greenpop’s Youth Programme, while Week 3 engages participants of all ages.
The programme will include tree planting, alien vegetation clearing, eco-education, mural painting, eco-enterprise, natural building, nature immersion, sustainability workshops, yoga, mindfulness, morning dance-offs and upcycling.
Locals too are urged to join the movement in order to make this festival as much of an inaugural success as possible.
Whether you choose to join the festival as a full-time participant, sponsor a youth to partake in the event, donate to the festival itself, or join Greenpop on one of their weekly Open Plant Days, every aspect of involvement from the local community will make a significant impact.
Garden Route locals are offered a 20% discount on the festival ticket price when indicating that they live in the Eden District on their application form.
Youths engage in a mass tree-planting activation day.
Sponsor a youth
Greenpop is aiming to make this experience as inclusive and accessible as possible and need your help to partially or fully fund eager applicants who would not otherwise afford to attend.
As an individual or an organisation, you would be providing a phenomenal opportunity to a deserving attendant.
The three-week, immersive programme will equip participants with skills in local ecology, landscaping, permaculture, beekeeping, eco-building, sustainability practices and environmental management, leadership and citizenship training, promoting curiosity, creativity and reflexivity.
A group of “tree-revolutionaries” partake in a trust and teamwork exercise as the warm-up to a day of environmental action.
