Eastern Cape Title Fight MiniFlyWeight 2017 – Plett champs in Willowvale this weekend
Excited Bitou Boxing Academy champions head out to Willowvale, Eastern Cape on the 23rd of September for the Eastern Cape Title Fight MiniFlyWeight 2017.
Isizwe Boxing Promotions in conjunction with Mbhashe Municipality are presenting the Eastern Cape Title Fight MiniFlyWeight this coming weekend.
Plettenberg Bay will be represented by two future champions, participating in the supp bout, under the head coach, Mr Gcobani Tom.
This event is endorsed by their boxing custodian, Boxing SA (BSA) and promoted by the Honourable Prince Ntsika Yesizwe from Isizwe Promotion, who focuses on up and coming professional boxers, especially the Plett boxers.
Unathi Mdwana (31) – nickname, ‘Golden Boy’ currently resides in Bossiesgif. Hailing from Butterworth in the Eastern Cape, he started training himself to box in 1998 and in 2004 he moved to Plett and attended the Sonqoba Boxing Academy. In 2014 after gaining 4 fights, he and Moodley Zukile Botha became co-founders of the Bitou Boxing Academy (BBA).
Nwabisile Cholani (29) – nickname, ‘Slow Poison’ resides in Kwanokhuthula and has been in Plett since 2008. He attended the Sonqoba Boxing Academy, where he met up with Unathi and the two have since been training together.
These boxers go through six hours of preparation everyday, and believe that boxing creates an avenue for future leaders in every aspect of life – teaching discipline and perseverance in the face of adversity.
All the travel costs and expenses were sponsored by Plettenberg Bay Tourism under the current Chairperson, Peter Wallington.
Co-ordinators, Kennith Magaba, (BBA Chairperson) – nickname, ‘Iron Man’ and Lukhanyo Mdzeke, (BBA Board Member), are extremely thankful for the support and effort that they have received from Plett Tourism.
Boxing has always being highly lucrative for sports tourism. It is estimated that in the US alone, over 50 million people take part in the sports tourism industry, by travelling from their homes to other areas and taking part in sports and recreational activities.
