DJ Nathi Black won’t let anything stand on his way as he reaches up
There’s a saying that goes: “shoot for the stars so that even if you don’t reach your target, you’re still nowhere near this world.
That’s what Plettenberg Bay-based young DJ, Unathi Genu, 24 affectionately known as DJ Nathi Black is doing, he sees himself as the next big thing in Mzansi.
2020 is going to be a very interesting and historic year for Dj Nathi Black as his music career is set to take off and he plans to give his craft his undivided devotion, dedication and determination, and he’s planning on not letting anything deter him from that. He’ll be working on making his music and playing on national and international arenas. “What will give me joy will be seeing people being healed, motivated and entertained by my music, wide world”, says the ambitious DJ.
He got bitten by the music bug when he was still in Primary School and has never imagined himself working outside of the entertainment industry. Being unable to afford to go to the music academy didn’t stop him from dreaming and making efforts to realise his dream of becoming a DJ. He taught himself software until he mastered his craft on the decks when he started playing in the night clubs after he matriculated.
“I remember telling my friend at school that I want to become a DJ, and that time I was in grade 6. I knew how expensive music academies were and there’s no way that my family could afford to take me there. So I familiarized myself with visual dj software to learn how to mix songs. When I mastered that as they say the rest is history. Today I’m proud self-taught house Dj and music producer”, says the upcoming house dj, as he took the trip down memory lane.
DJ NATHI BLACK is inspired by the likes of DJ Shimza, the African Woman hitmaker and sees himself being like him someday.
Being signed by a local label; Three Counts Records is a good sign that he’s getting somewhere with his career, and that makes his heart swell with elation. And nothing humbles him than the dedication the record label’s team is showing to make sure his dream is realised.
He’s currently working on his house music single which he’ll be releasing soon. He, together with his three counts records are putting a lot of hard work on the single, production and marketing-wise. “I can’t say much about the single at this moment as it still in the final stage of production but we can ascertain whatever he comes with, Mzansi will love it. Three Counts records are 100% behind this young man and Mzansi will definitely love him” says Bulelani Tom, Three Counts records artist promoter.
Dj Nathi Black is not all about music, but also his heart is towards championing “No to Violence against Women and Children initiative. “Women are people just like men and they deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. The killings of Women and Children must stop immediately, says Dj Nathi Black.
When he’s casting his eyes heavenly, he can only see the sky and that’s his limit. There’s a lot he’s planning to do in his career.
And nothing can stop him as he’s on his way up.
