Cape Kayak Camino launched on Garden Route
Introducing the Cape Kayak Camino – new Overnight / Two-day Kayak tour on the Garden Route.
Launching their inaugural Garden Route Camino, Real Cape Adventures will be embarking on a two-day kayak adventure from May 2018. The tour is the latest offering from stalwart kayaker and adventure traveller, Johan Loots
Combining the beauty of the Plett Lagoon, the rural Bitou Estuary and the majestic Keurbooms Gorge the guided tour covers approximately thirty-six kilometres of paddling. On offer is a unique wilderness experience in the popular Garden Route region, with Plettenberg Bay, the jewel of the Eden District, at the heart of it.
Day One explores the beauty and tranquillity of the estuary paddling in harmony with the tidal flow. Exploring the bends and banks brimming with marine life and birds makes this a nature lover’s delight especially since the kayaks allow close encounters. The changing waterscapes allow for contemplation before reaching the overnight camp, nestling at the edge of the Keurbooms Gorge in an indigenous forest.
Day Two takes in the majestic Keurbooms Gorge. High cliffs and ancient yellowwoods line the route whilst water tainted gold by the forest vegetation provides a reflective ribbon to glide upon. Looping back, the route takes in a secluded dune path to the great Indian Ocean.
The Cape Kayak Camino allows a relaxed and eco-friendly way of discovering and experiencing Plettenberg Bay, the pristine jewel of the Garden Route. Founded in 1995, Real Cape Adventures pioneered various kayak routes in Southern Africa and beyond. They also developed their award-winning PaddleYak brand of innovative kayaks, even adventurer Riaan Manser used them in his epic circumnavigations of Madagascar and Iceland. Only stable, comfortable PaddleYak kayaks are used on this trip.
Johan Loots is the author of A Practical Guide to Sea Kayaking in Southern Africa as well as An Essential Guide to Sea Kayaking available worldwide. They recently identified and inspired the first official kayak route on the Camino de Santiago in Spain. In synergy with this operation, the new Cape Kayak Camino has been launched on the Garden Route for all to experience in their own personal ways.
