Brawl leads to fatal stabbing
A brawl between two Plettenberg Bay locals led to a fatal stabbing last week.
According to the Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA) operations team, a fight broke out on Thursday 15 March between men near Signal Hill. One of the men pulled out a knife and stabbed the other.
Following the stabbing the suspect fled into the bushes nearby, leaving the seriously injured man on the scene.
Several PBCPA members, including police, local traffic department, municipal law enforcement, ambulance services and neighbourhood members responded.
“Responders flooded the area and covered all possible escape routes,” Otto Olivier said.
The suspect was spotted and apprehended.
Medics treated the injured man and transported him to the Plett Mediclinic, but he succumbed to his injuries.
“They never gave up and worked on the badly injured man for more than 30 minutes. After he was transported to the Mediclinic, Dr Pieter-Louis Vollgraaff tried to save the man’s life,” Olivier said.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sheila Palmer confirmed the incident and said that the police were investigating a case of murder.
Olivier said all involved did an excellent job, and added, “The incredible cooperation and support between the various security and emergency stakeholders were incredible.”
