Gothic Adventures Await: ‘Wednesday’ Season Two is on the Horizon
Get ready for more spine-chilling escapades as production ramps up for the highly anticipated second season of Netflix’s smash hit, “Wednesday.” Starring the reigning Hollywood sensation Jenna Ortega, the new season promises to delve deeper into the dark and delightful world of Wednesday Addams at Nevermore Academy.
While the release date remains shrouded in mystery, Netflix has teased that the upcoming season will continue to unravel the supernatural enigmas surrounding our favorite goth girl. Since its renewal in January 2023, the show has hinted at even more thrilling “torture” for its beloved characters.
Jenna Ortega, who not only stars but also serves as an executive producer, shared her insights with “Tudum,” Netflix’s official companion site: “[Wednesday] remains steadfast and true to herself, never bowing to others’ expectations.” Ortega, who relates deeply to Wednesday’s rebellious spirit, admires her character’s refusal to conform.
The 21-year-old actress will once again take center stage as Wednesday, the enigmatic daughter of the Addams Family, juggling her roles as a detective, a mystery writer, and an outsider. Her portrayal has garnered a massive global following.
Returning cast members include Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair, Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay, Moosa Mostafa as Eugene, Georgie Farmer as Ajax, and Victor Dorobantu as Thing. Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia Addams), Luis Guzmán (Gomez Addams), Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley Addams), Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo (Deputy Ritchie Santiago), Jamie McShane (Sheriff Donovan Galpin), and Fred Armisen (Uncle Fester) will also reprise their roles, adding to the show’s rich ensemble.
New faces joining the eerie crew include Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, Noah Taylor, and Joanna Lumley. Additionally, Thandiwe Newton, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, and Joonas Suotamo will make special appearances.
Tim Burton will return to direct the new season, continuing his collaboration with Ortega. The iconic filmmaker, also working on the “Beetlejuice” sequel set for a September 6 release, will co-executive produce alongside Ortega and the show’s creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, as well as a team of executive producers including Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman, Tommy Harper, Karen Richards, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman, Gail Berman, and Meredith Averill.
Season two will be set in Ireland, diverging from the Romanian backdrop of the first season, where Wednesday found herself ensnared in a mystical conspiracy at Nevermore Academy. According to Millar, “Threats loom large, both for Wednesday and her school. Not all the loose ends are neatly tied up as she might hope.”
Since its debut in November 2022, “Wednesday” has captivated audiences worldwide, becoming Netflix’s most popular English-language series. It spent 20 weeks on the Global Top 10 and reached the Top 10 in 93 countries. The series received 12 Primetime Emmy Award nominations in July 2023.
To celebrate the new season, Mattel will unveil a brand-new Wednesday Addams Collection, adding to the show’s growing legacy.
