WARNING Fireworks and sky lanterns are banned in Plett
The Plett Animal Welfare Service (PAWS) joins the Bitou Municipality in reminding residents and visitors that all fireworks and sky lanterns are strictly prohibited.
Fireworks and lanterns are a serious fire risk, as one cannot control where they end up. They were, in the past, responsible for destruction of our natural vegetation, causing damage to property and death and injury to wild animals.
Our domestic animals are also at risks as loud bangs produced by fireworks cause anxiety and panic, causing them to run away, getting lost, injured or killed. PAWS deals with the fall-out from the illegal fireworks during New Years Eve and for days afterwards, as we attend to traumatised and injured animals, and lost pets who have to be accommodated at our kennels until they can be reunited with their owners.
PAWS appeals to all residents and visitors to comply with the law. Please help us protect our natural environment and all our animals.
Thank you for your cooperation.
