The Youth Light Up the Stage at ASAP Showcase 2025
The After School Activities Program (ASAP) Showcase 2025, presented by Lunchbox Theatre, brought energy and inspiration to the stage at Kwanokuthula Primary School in Plettenberg Bay on 27 November. Running from 18:30 to 20:30, the event drew families, tourists, and community members eager to celebrate the creativity of local youth.
A Celebration of Talent and Community
The showcase is the culmination of the ASAP initiative, which provides arts education and job opportunities for township youth in Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. Through dance and drama, participants shared stories rooted in local culture, offering audiences a vibrant mix of performance and community pride.
Beyond entertainment, the event highlighted the transformative power of theatre. By equipping young people with skills in performance and storytelling, ASAP fosters confidence, discipline, and teamwork—qualities that extend far beyond the stage.
Accessibility and Inclusion
Tickets were priced at R20 for adults and R10 for children, ensuring that the event remained accessible to all members of the community. This affordability reflects Lunchbox Theatre’s commitment to inclusivity and its mission to make the arts a shared experience across generations.
Sponsors and Supporters
The showcase was made possible through the generous support of:
- WESGRO is the Western Cape’s official tourism, trade, and investment promotion agency.
- The Rolf Stefan Nussbaum Foundation is a philanthropic organisation supporting community and cultural initiatives.
- Sustaining Theatre and Dance Foundation (STAND), dedicated to strengthening the performing arts sector.
- ASSITEJ South Africa, the national association for theatre for children and young people.
Their involvement highlights the significance of partnerships in supporting arts education and ensuring that young voices are heard on stage.
The Broader Vision
Lunchbox Theatre, a registered non-profit organisation, continues to use the performing arts as a tool to uplift, empower, educate, and entertain. The ASAP Showcase is more than a performance—it is part of a growing movement that demonstrates how creative expression can transform lives, build community resilience, and inspire future generations.
