Kwano resident uses his time wisely during lockdown
As a means to combat the lockdown blues, Elliot Sandi, a local Kwanokuthula resident, decided to use his time constructively by creating a vegetable garden in his back yard.
“For years I have thought of creating a nice garden at the back of my house, but I have never had the time to do it. Not that I didn’t have time – I always had time to do other things, but not my garden, don’t ask why.
“After President Ramaphosa announced the Lockdown of our country because of Covid-19, I was taken by surprise as I didn’t believe that it was going to be so serious, as we have never had something like this happen before.
“On the first weekend of the lockdown, I sat down and thought of something that I could do around the house to keep myself busy during this time. The garden was the first thing that came to my mind. On Monday the 30th, I began looking for my tools. Of course, no one believed me when I said I am going to start my garden, but I did.
“I spent the whole day digging and clearing up a piece of land at the back of my house. It took me 5 days to complete my garden and now I am waiting to see the results of my efforts.
“I feel so good that I have finally completed something I have been longing to do for so many years. I also realised how happy I felt being able to spend so much time with my family without being disturbed by the social gatherings around the location.
“Yes, this is a difficult time for all of us, but we have so much to be thankful for too. This will pass if we keep ourselves busy in our homes, wash our hands all the time, boost our immune systems and obey the rules of the lockdown.”
