Helpful tips on how to make your wedding planning easier
Text by Cheryl Dempster from Plett Weddings and Functions
I am super excited to be able to share in your wedding day, having recently attended a wedding session at Val de Vie
I thought you may benefit from a few of the tips that were shared:
- When it comes to planning a wedding , there are no rules. There is nothing more beautiful than a “happy couple” at their wedding and that is the most important element to remember.
- During the time you are planning your wedding there will be highs and lows, so having a plan, good service providers and a constant source of inspiration will equip you to turn your wedding into a celebration that reflects you as a couple.
- Starting with “the budget” be up front with all parties involved, decide on a budget that is realistic and comfortable. Find out the average price of things and ask for quotations. Modern times have done away with his and her family expense, it is common for bridal couples to jointly fit the bill for their wedding with assistance from their families, this takes away the financial burden on the bride’s parents.
- Get your family and friends involved in assisting you, try plan a wedding off season to eliminate high costs.
- Identify three things most important to you – venue, dress, photographer. Or venue, food, photographer. Consult new service providers to cut costs as they haven’t yet out priced themselves. Have beautifully presented food and a fabulous photographer. Choose flowers in season. It is acceptable to serve your guests red and white wine, bubbly, water, cool drink, tea and coffee, a full bar can be run as a cash bar.
- Cut down on printing costs – email a save the date.
- Borrow accessories for your table décor. When booking a venue take everything into account hidden costs such as staff.
- Your venue is the backdrop to your wedding, choose your venue first and then decide on a theme.
- Once you have chosen a venue – book your photographer , make sure you choose the right photographer, someone that suits your personality and style, every photographer has a different style of capturing your day, a classic look, a natural style, a quirky style, a vintage style, an avante garde style, a fine art style.
- Don’t have to many colours, 3 shades should be the limit. White is a good base to work from, focus on how your photo’s will look and remember natural light is important. Candles don’t add light, be careful of lighting and remember to budget for additional lighting if required. Make sure your décor is not too busy, clean lines allow for more detail.
- Society is moving away from commercial flowers and organic is becoming more of a lifestyle, use flowers and foliage from the area you are getting married in. The flowers should complement your décor. Try borrow accessories for the table from family and friends.
- Make sure you have a good relationship with your service providers, you must be able to communicate with ease and not only via email. It is vital that they have understanding of who you are and what you prefer.
So to recap – BUDGET – VENUE – PHOTOGRAPHER are the first three important steps to starting your planning process
